WRITE AND SUBMIT YOUR TELEVISION SCRIPT
 
The television writing fellowship season is upon us, where studios such as Nickelodeon, ABC, NBC, Comedy Central, and Fox offer fellowships and contests for budding screenwriters to jumpstart their careers. In this class, you will learn about the ins and outs of television script writing and work on your own spec or original script with the intention to submit it to one of these opportunities this season.

Instructor:
Jenn Dlugos’ offbeat sense of humor has made her an award-winning comedian, writer, and filmmaker. Jenn’s screenplays received recognition at the Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Competition, the Kids First! Film festival, the Feel Good Film Festival, The Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Yosemite Film Festival.  She made her directorial debut with the comedy film There She Is…  The film won Best Regional Film and the Audience Award for Best Comedy Short at the 2011 Southeast New England (SENE) Film Festival, and was an official selection of the Broad Humor Film Festival in Los Angeles.  Her most recent comedy film, Viral Video, was an official selection of the 2011 Boston Comedy Festival. 

Jenn teaches screenwriting for the Rhode Island School of Design CE certificate programs and many adult education centers in New England. Her teaching has been featured in the documentary Thinking Through The Drink, which chronicles four RIFC film production classes that create drunk driving awareness videos for the Department of Transportation.

Jenn also takes her comedy to the stage. She was awarded Most Promising New Stand-Up Comedian at the USA Showcase and her humor has been published in Traveler’s Tales and  Chicken Soup for the Soul. She recently released a book of true comedy-of-error moments entitled Mug of Woe that is currently available on Amazon.

 

Editing - Final Cut

Description
Learn the basics of film editing with the preferred professional tool, (Not Final Cut X).. In a lab where each student has a station, this six-week class will cover editing workflows, compositing, editing multi-camera sequences and using green screen. A guest speaker will also discuss the profession of editing from a studio perspective.

Instructor
Mark Fogarty is one of the founders of the Rhode Island Film Collabortative and has filmed several shorts and feature films.He has been teaching media and editing at Bishop Hendricken for several years, following his experience as a professional video editor.

 

Acting - Improv Acting for Film

Description
Improv for film is a six week class concentrating on improv techniques that strengthen character choices, consistency and dialogue skills.  This course will focus on preparing the student to participate in a film written through improv, or relying heavily on improvisational directorial methods. This class will incorporate a variety of improv techniques that are applicable to stage, film and writing sessions.  

Instructor
Melissa Bowler is an improvisor, actor, theater arts instructor and producer of the Providence Improv Fest.  She performs with Improv Jones, The Empire Revue and The Trumans.  She has taught improv in numerous venus including Perishable Theater, Bryant University and Hasbro Hospital.
