SUMMER SHOOT PRODUCER ANNOUNCED

Award-winning Director to Head Kid Filmmakers Camp at Kay Studios

NEWPORT, RI -- Alec Asten, an award-winning filmmaker and president of Southeastern Connecticut Filmmakers, has been appointed the Shoot Producer for the July 27 Summer Shoot camp hosted by Kid Filmmakers.

"Alec is a popular Kid Filmmakers instructor who teaches directing to our young filmmakers," says Kid Filmmaker’s founder and Executive Director Eleyne Austen Sharp. "The Shoot Producer is an important position and we are pleased Alec’s busy film schedule allows him to oversee our week-long camp this year."

A resident of Westerly, Asten recently produced “The Curse of Micah Hood”, which is based on a 17th century Connecticut legend. The film stars Ron Palillo, best known for his role as Arnold Horshack in the “Welcome Back, Kotter” television show (1975-1979). Asten’s film was awarded “Best Regional Short Film” from the SENE Film, Music and Arts Festival and “Best of New England” from the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival.

In addition to his feature films, Asten has produced corporate television commercials and documentaries for such clients as NBC, ESPN, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, Sony, Foxwoods Resorts, Billy Gilman and Earth, Wind and Fire. He is the president of Southeastern Connecticut Filmmakers, an organization which promotes quality filmmaking in Southeastern Connecticut.

Summer Shoot (Monday, July 27 thru Friday, July 31) is a working movie production unit. Held from 9 AM-4 PM at Kay Studios, 66 Valley Street in East Providence, Summer Shoot offers an intensive full-day curriculum for beginning and returning filmmakers, i.e. hands-on instruction in acting, directing, editing, lighting, sound, makeup, screenwriting and videography. Each crew will produce a documentary, Kid Filmmakers commercial, silent film and drama, comedy or musical. Selected projects will appear on the Kid Filmmakers YouTube channel.

Now celebrating its eighth year, Kid Filmmakers hosts summer filmmaking camps in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island and produces year-round after-school and weekend programs. Faculty members are experienced film industry professionals with credits from MGM Pictures, Paramount, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Discovery Channel, NBC, PBS, ESPN, TNN, Turner Broadcasting, AOL/Time Warner and more.

The cost of Summer Shoot is $365 per child ($335 for returnees and Kid Filmmakers Club members) which includes a DVD copy of film projects and certificate of completion.
