Artists' Exchange and the Black Box Theatre Present Encore Performances of Original Comedy

Cranston, RI – The Artists' Exchange, home of the Black Box Theatre, proudly announces upcoming encore performances of "Intermittence", an original play written by Rhode Island's own Mark Carter, featuring an original score by Tom Chace, Mark Carter, Rich Morra and the Black Box Players.

At once a love story, science fiction adventure and comedy, "Intermittence" is a truly unique theatre experience. The play centers around a lovesick Harold and the object of his affection, celery-chewing Margaret, whose constant bickering is interrupted by the impending danger of a monstrous ogre called Drunge. Strength of body, mind and character are put to the test, as the entire ensemble of characters schemes to avoid the wrath of Drunge. Featuring a disembodied voice, talking owl, android and human wind-up toy, the ensemble and plot are rife with surprises.

You will laugh, you will cry, you will-- let's think of something to say in reference to the…. ummmm…. heheheheh says Rich Morra, Black Box Theatre Director.

Intermittence will be performed Thursdays 10/18 and 10/25, Fridays 10/19 and 10/26, Saturdays 10/20 and 10/27 and Sundays 10/21 and 10/28. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7pm. Sunday performances are at 2pm. Tickets are $15. The show is recommended for audiences over 12 years of age. Reservations, which are strongly encouraged, can be made by calling 401.490.9475.

Hello screenwriters,

I spoke to Mr. Corrente's assistant, Ryan Murphy, regarding details of the upcoming screamwriting contest. I wanted to make the people at Scare RI aware of concerns that some people had expressed.

The two major concerns have been:

1. Will the screenwriter be paid for their idea?

2. Is there anything in place to protect the screenwriter from having their idea stolen?

After speaking with Ryan, I now feel fully confident that I can answer these concerns.

Question #1: Will the screenwriter be paid for their idea?

Answer: Yes. The creator of the idea will be guaranteed screen credit and paid a sum equivalent to the standards of low budget Hollywood movies. There is not an official answer on how much that will be, however, by the standards of Hollywood filmmaking, it will be a respectable amount of money.

Question #2: Is there anything in place to protect the screenwriter from having their idea stolen?

Answer: Yes. First of all, there will be paperwork that you will get a copy of. That paperwork can be used as a record that you pitched your idea. Be sure to read the paperwork before signing it and pitching your idea, of course.

Also, the event will be documented and well publicized, so it would be easy to find witnesses and prove your idea was stolen. Of course, Scare RI has no intention of stealing anything, we never thought they did, but we need to make sure you are protected. After talking to Ryan, I now feel confident that the people at ScareRI want you protected as well, and will have things in place to make sure you feel safe sharing your million dollar idea.

Another interesting point is that you don't necessarily have to be a writer to pitch an idea. If you have a great idea but are not capable of writing it, they would be willing to find you a writer and you would still get credit and payment for the idea. And for you writers that want to write a horror but have not gotten around to it yet, you can still enter the competition. Just pitch your idea and you will be given time to write it after it is selected.

I hope this helps answer your questions and encourages you to come to the event with your best work.

DAVE is father figure with all round nice guy persona. In late 30's/early 40's. Must have good comic timing for film.

To RIFC and the Actors Group:

I was able to have part of my script Smalltown read at the actors group on Tuesday night. Over twenty actors showed up and each person read two scenes from the screenplay. By the end of the night, I had seen a huge chunk of the movie played out for me.

Nowhere else in the country is there a film community this open and giving. Everyone in the actors group was completely supportive of one another and everyone came ready to play. The environment was so open and inviting, everyone was able to let go of their inhibitions and give it their all. I was really amazed at how much talent everyone displayed. Their readings really brought the script to life.

I have often heard casting directors say they are going to get New York actors which has always pissed me off, as if paying too much for a place in New York makes you a better actor. If any Hollywood casting director had been at that meeting, they would know that there is no need to look anywhere else; the talent is right here.

Hello,

I am writing to ask you if you would like to join me in working on a film project. And, to also ask if you know of someone that would be interested in working on a film project?

The Newport Film Salon is gearing up to produce its next short film project, an adaptation of this year’s winning screenplay “Saving Place.” The story revolves around three grown children who must decide on how to divide family property following the unexpected death of their mother.

The Newport Film Salon (NFS) is a non-profit organization created to help produce independent films in and around Newport, RI. The idea is to establish a common ground where those with diverse skills and interests can meet, network and collaborate on the art of filmmaking – even if you have nothing more than a good attitude and a desire to learn! We are looking to fill some key roles as well as a few secondary roles. We would also like to invite anyone who is just starting out in production and would like to learn more. We are asking ask that a few of the people assigned to key production roles - also fill the role of mentor. These mentors will then be paired with a “student” that will be by their side - mostly to help but also to learn.

This year's production is a short film - that will be shot on digital video, on location in Newport, RI over a period of 3 or 4 weekends and/or weeknights. We plan to begin shooting in late-September through October.

Below I have listed a number of Production Roles that we will need to filled ASAP. Please let me know if you are interested in ANY capacity or if you know someone that may be interested. Also, Please feel free to pass this email along, on my behalf. And, because this is a non-profit organization - it is assumed that you would be offering your services voluntarily.

Please contact me directly by email or cell if you are interested and available in participating in this project. I will then put you in touch with the Producer of the film, Dorria Marsh. I will not assume any roles are "officially filled" unless we have spoken.
